Meet Kintaro

KintaroTyler MacNiven is one to watch. I remember first hearing about him years ago when he was running for Stanford student. Then he contacted me a couple months ago, proposing to trade me a DVD of his movie, Kintaro Walks Japan for my DVD of Penal Dysfunction. One of the best trades I've ever made! I've decided that he leads a naturally cinematic life. His film is filled with adventure, romance, passion, humor, and endless evidence that he is a character any screenwriter would wish that he or she had dreamed up. He just lives, and stories happen. And friendships. He has an uncanny way of interacting with people. It's beautiful. This may be premature, but I'm going to go ahead and say he is in the top 5 people I've ever known when it comes to, simply, interacting with humanity. Anyway, you should watch his movie, which is available on DVD at his website. You can also see it by buying a Business Class ticket for any American Airlines 767 flight. If you don't like the idea of paying for it [icy stare] then you can watch for free it in it's entirety on Google Video. So that's that, but it gets better.

Our cinematic bonding and email correspondence finally culminated in our first actual meeting a few days ago. I went over to his place, along with like 30 other people, and we watched The Amazing Race. This might seem weird, and I had never seen an episode before, but the thing is, Tyler is on the show this season. In fact, he's going to win the million dollars, along with his partner BJ. Look at them. If you watch (wednesday nights at 8, cbs) you will understand why I pick them to win. They are the only ones who are really playing just to have fun. They're the funny guys. They're the guys you would want to travel with. Anyway, you'll see. I was a little worried about attending the showing of a friend's reality show at that friend's house, since the last time I did that she was eliminated in the first episode. But in Wednesday's episode (SPOILER WARNING TIVO HEADS), Tyler bungee-jumped, wrestled a Greek monster, read the directions wrong, almost got eliminated, and then triumphed to remain one of the top teams. So I'm not a total curse. Anyway, watch, and root for Kintaro.

Long live the hippies! Their victory is an inspiration to us all. I'd play the game in my orange flightsuit, but I think I'd probably get hot while I'm wrestling a camel in Jordan or whatever. -M.
